An ill wind in Beijing

Article Abstract:

Beijing, China. has been seriously affected by air pollution and Capital Iron and Steel Works is seen as one of the worst offenders. The company has started to tackle the problem by reducing production, shedding jobs, and moving awaay from the most polluting activities. Critics argue that the company cannot easily change, and should be shut down or transferred. There is also a problem of providing services for people catered for by the company, which gives retirement benefits, health care and schooling, as well as employment.
