Article Abstract:

The summer 1993 flooding of the Mississippi River and its tributaries in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, and elsewhere has caused as much as $3 billion worth of damage, according to some estimates. Pres Clinton has committed some $2.5 billion in federal aid to flood relief.

Galileo's sweep by Europa on Feb 20, 1997, should provide unprecedented detail of the moon's surface. Astronomers have long suspected that the moon's icy surface may contain water underneath and possibly some form of life.
