Anxiety about wiretapping

Article Abstract:

There is a need for clarity on the legal structure surrounding government eavesdropping, and for greater accountability. There has been a dispute on this issue in Japan, and there should be a dispute in Britain, where there government has not addressed the problem of accountability and clarity, though examples of good practice elsewhere could be copied. There are technical holes in the British laws, and this means that there is little protection of individual privacy. The issue becomes more urgent as the technology develops.
