Asian mall firms embrace urban entertainment fad

Article Abstract:

Shopping mall developers in Asia are incorporating sports complexes, theme parks and other recreation centers into their designs to attract more customers and boost retail sales. However, US-based shopping center consultants warned that such a development strategy may fail. Moreover, they stressed the importance of matching shopping center amenities to the specific needs of the customer base. Meanwhile, Imax Corp., International Leisure Systems and Sportopia Inc. plan to quickly move into the growing Asian shopping center and leisure market.

The Asian generation gap; survey of 'twentysomethings' holds surprises' (WPP Group PLC survey report)

Article Abstract:

A survey by WPP Group PLC of Asians aged 20-29 reveals that most believed in having controlled freedoms and that they are less materialistic than perceived. The survey also reveals that belief in parental authority is strong and that Western values can coexist with Oriental concepts. Political views vary with nationality but the general sentiments is that politics should not be left to politicians.

Tobacco firms are high on light cigarette trend

Article Abstract:

Smokers across Asia, particularly those in Indonesia, are switching to cigarettes with low tar and nicotine contents in the mistaken belief that these cigarettes are less lethal than high-tar and high-nicotine cigarettes. Cigarette manufacturers are launching aggressive marketing campaigns to boost the already-high demand for light cigarettes in Asian countries.
