Athens says it will open as planned

Article Abstract:

The delayed Athens Spata Airport (IATA) was scheduled to open on Mar 28, 2001, four weeks after its first planned opening on Mar 1, 2001, despite remarks that unfinished transport infrastructure to the airport, as well as other incomplete facilities, could mean a further postponement. Athens International Airport announced that everything was going according to schedule despite claims from IATA's director general Pierre Jeanniot that the airport acess tollway would not be ready for the opening.

Atc system for Liege Bierset

Article Abstract:

Belgocontrol and the Wallon region of Belgium has selected Airsys System to supply an air traffic control system comprising a STAR 2000/RSM/ 970S radar station and a Watchkeeper approach control system for Liege-Bierset airport. The equipment will be used to improve air traffic safety and relieve congestion Brussels, Belgium airport. The services of Thomson-CSF Electronics Beligium has been employed to manage the contract and oversee the infrastructure.

Building a southern hub

Article Abstract:

The Athens International Airport (AIA) authority in Greece has reported that operations at the new, US$2-billion airport have continued to proceed well since its opening in Mar 28, 2001. AIA aims to capture a bigger share of the lucrative European and Middle East business. It also intends to become a cargo hub for the Eastern Mediterranean. Travel times to the new airport are expected be cut when Athens' city/suburban rail link is completed.
