Spending for the polls

Article Abstract:

Australia's budgetary deficit equivalent to US$9.6 billion in Jun 1993 has been reported by the country's economists without significantly upsetting the financial markets. Investors are glad that the size of the deficit was not as large as expected considering that 1993 is an election year. Australia is hoping that the economies of both the US and Japan would recover in due time from the worldwide recession. With this desired development, Australia expects to gain momentum in its economic growth aims.
