Austria: Cartel office stops Switch

Article Abstract:

Switch, the electricity discounter targeting private households which was set up by Energie Allianz to make use of the full liberalisation of Austrian electricity market, will be taken over by Wiener Stadtwerke . Energie Allianz is a joint venture of five regional power companies, led by EVN and including Wiener Stadtwerke. Its subsidiary Energie Allianz Austria GmbH (formerly E&S) will concentrate on selling to large-scale power consumers, as the Austrian cartel authority has not given its approval to the cooperation in the private client segment.
