In 1998/99 Greiner expects a 10-15% increase in turnover from Sch 4.8bn in 1997/98 (+10%). Sales in the emerging markets of eastern Europe grew 38%, and this region should contribute most to future growth. Die Industrie investiert heuer kr ftig

Article Abstract:

A poll by Wifo, the Austrian Institute for Economic Forecasting, among 2,800 companies suggests that investment by Austrian industrial, construction, energy and transportation companies will reach Sch 63.1bn in 1998, up 9.4% in nominal terms and 7.6% in real terms. Investment ratio would thus rise from 6.2% to 6.4%. The increase is attributed to the postponement of investments in 1997, the improved self-financing power of companies, and low interest rates. While in 1997 investment was driven by exports, it is now being supported also by domestic demand. Investment by the construction sector is estimated to grow 4% in nominal terms to Sch 4.8bn, following stagnation in 1997.
