Austria: Former bank customers suing republic

Article Abstract:

70 former customers of the Austrian Riegerbank are suing the republic on the grounds of its neglect in supervision. The lawsuit comes three years after Riegerbank's bankruptcy and concerns EUR 14.9mn not repaid to customers. According to the lawyer involved, cause for action existed years ago, when insolvency might have been avoidable. The same lawyer has successfully argued the republic's liability towards 300 customers of the BHI Bank for the bank inspector's failure.

The news agency Apa (Austria Presse Agentur) and Austria Today are to cooperate in offering an English-language daily news service under the title Executive Summary Austria (ESA). While Austria Today provides the business and economics news, Apa is responsible for political reporting. The service is said to be unique in Austria.

Vienna Commercial Court has rejected a suit by Pressetext.austria against the news agency Austria Presse-Agentur (APA). The court held that APA was right in accusing Pressetext of content piracy.
