Austria: One to be in the black by 2005

Article Abstract:

Austrian mobile telecommunications firm One has confirmed its aim to be in the black by 2005 at the latest. It aims to break even before tax in 2002. The company expects its turnover to be Sch 8bn in 2001, Sch 2.2bn higher than in 2000. In 2002 One expects to invest Sch 8-10bn in the UMTS network, but thanks to investments in One by 13 banks including JP Morgan Chase, Erste Bank, West LB and Dresdner Bank, further investments in GSM, GPRS and UMTS are assured. The company intends to concentrate on business users in the future, aiming to have as many business as private customers by the end of 2002.

AUSTRIA: MOBILE PHONE OPERATORS EYEING ROAD PRICING

Article Abstract:

The mobile phone service providers Max.mobil and One have announced that they will participate in the tender for the road pricing system to be introduced for trucks in Austria. Max.mobil's bid is likely to involve the German associate T-Systems, while One is cooperating with Ericsson. Mobilkom Austria, which has already submitted a bid, has not disclosed the names of any partners. Altogether eight companies/groups have indicated their interest in the tender.

One expects to generate a turnover of Sch 7.1bn in year 2000 and Sch 10bn in 2001, up from Sch 2bn in 1999. The company has 1mn clients for mobile telephony , 100,000 for fixed-line telephony and more than 60,000 for internet.
