AUSTRIA: OBB ORDERS LOCOMOTIVES FROM SIEMENS

Article Abstract:

OBB has placed orders with Siemens Austria for the delivery of 100 Taurus electric locomotives and 30 diesel locomotives for Sch 3.5bn and Sch 650mn, respectively. The Taurus locomotives will be built at Krauss-Maffei Verkehrstechnik in Munich, Germany, and finished at the OBB works in Linz. Deliveries are expected for year 2000. With the new locomotives OBB will be able to run passenger services on the Westbahn western railway at speeds of 200 kph. Even without the present OBB contract, the Austrian arm of Siemens increased order inflow by 22% in the first 9 months of the fiscal year to 30 September 1999.

AUSTRIA: OBB TO EMPLOY CLEANERS

The Austrian railway company Osterreichische Bundesbahnen (OBB) is to invest Sch 50mn in employing 200 long-term unemployed people in cleaning services at railway stations.
