Avon's rubber Czechs

Article Abstract:

The management of the English company Avon Rubber, who manufacture car and tyre parts took only 8 weeks to negotiate a merger with Rubena a similar company in the Czech republic but legal delays meant that final agreement took over 2 years. Rubena sold 65% of its factory in Rudnik to Avon Rubber for 2.25 million pounds sterling in 1993 since then it has been able to increase its labour force and extended its foreign markets. Although the workforce is highly motivated new investors into the Czech Republic may find difficulty with the constantly changing rules for foreign investment.

A world to the wise

Article Abstract:

The strength of the pound is having a negative impact on UK manufacturers and exporters, but should be an advantage to investors seeking opportunities abroad. It is a good time for UK companies to consider investment sales opportunities in overseas markets. Economic conditions in some emerging markets may seem very unstable, but this should not deter middle market companies from considering international activity, especially in the form of strategic alliances or joint ventures. Other opportunities include franchise and distribution agreements and wholly-owned subsidiaries.
