BAe's next test: bring Dasa back to the table

Article Abstract:

British Aerospace PLC's (BAe) acquisition of General Electric Co. PLC's Marconi defense unit alienated DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG (Dasa). BAe acquired Marconi for 7.7 billion pound sterling ($12.76 billion) in order to form a dominant firm in the UK. Dasa, BAe's partner in Airbus Industrie, was deeply engaged in merger negotiations with BAe just before the 1998 Christmas period. BAe's chairman, Sir Richard Evans, admitted that it would take some time for the situation to calm down.
