BBV's net profit rose 25% last year

Spanish banker Grupo BBV announced a 25% rise in profits to 163.63 pesetas ($1.12 billion) for 1998, but the news was upstaged by the acquisition of France's Societe Generale and Paribas S.A. BBV Chairman Emilio Ybarra would says he will not rush into any takeover deals.
