BP settles charges, submits to watchdogs

Article Abstract:

UK petroleum company BP PLC has agreed to $373 mil in restitution and fines for environmental crimes, and has agreed to be monitored by a government-assigned trading compliance monitor for the next three years due to allegations of price manipulation. BP will also undergo a three-year probation for an Alaskan oil spill and a fatal accident at a Texas refinery.

Mystery Russian company wins bid on Yukos unit

Article Abstract:

OOO Baikal Finance Group, a limited-liability company, has purchased Yukanskneftegas, the main oil production unit of OAO NK Yukos. The fact that little is known about Baikal and that it is unclear whether it will retain the Yukos assets, is leading analysts to speculate that the government may have had a hand in the investment company's acquisition.

Russian Aluminum faces suit in U.S. from metal traders

Russian Aluminum is being sued in the United States by a group of metal trading firms for a range for criminal activities. The $2.7 billion (3.02 billion euros) suit alleges that the company was engaged in crimes ranging from murder and extortion to money laundering.
