Baby drinks & rusks

Article Abstract:

A report looks at the market for baby drinks and rusks and finds that the market has been shaped by busier consumer lifestyles, with manufacturers combining convenience with high quality. Baby drinks and rusk accounted for only 7.9% of overall volume sales and 8.7% of value sales in 1997. Nutricia Ltd's Cow & Gate brand commanded a 42% share in 1997, and multiple grocers represented 60% of value sales of baby food in 1997. Baby drinks and rusk are predicted to fall in volume and and value between 1997 and 2002.

Germany: Europe's powerhouse

Article Abstract:

There are significant opportunities for companies keen to establish a presence in Germany, the largest market in Europe. UK companies operating in Germany have mainly been in the service sector. Germany appears excessively regulated to outsiders, but in fact it is often possible to reach localized compromises at company or plant level. There can be some obstacles to establishing a presence in Germany, including the importance given to long-term business relationships and obtaining finance.

Baby foods in Germany

Article Abstract:

Sales of baby foods in Germany from 1989-1993 increased despite a decline in the number of live births. In 1993, sales increased by 5% over the previous year. Recent product developments include the emergence of hypoallergenic infant milk. Based on 1993 constant prices, sales of baby foods in Germany is expected to be 2% lower than the current level. The continued decline in the number of live births will adversely affect the market.
