In 1995, the total UK market for baby food was valued at 298 million pounds sterling, representing 22.6% growth since 1991, with further growth anticipated to 327 million pounds in the year 2000. Of the total in 1995, baby milk accounted for 133 million pounds. Between 1991 and 1995, the value of the sector for prepared baby meals increased by 34.9%. Organic baby food

The market in organic baby food is likely to continue to grow because parents are concerned about food safety and are looking for healthy foods for their babies. Cow and Gate Ltd. has entered the market and H.J.Heinz Company Ltd. is likely to follow suite. Organic baby food has only 6% of the market in the United Kingdom but it is much more popular in the rest of Europe. It is anticipated that organic baby food will have a 9% share of the market by the year 2001.
