Back for a second bite of the cherry

Article Abstract:

Filofax Group PLC is well-known as the maker of loose-leaf diaries and personal organisers. Its profit in 1989 reached 12 million pounds sterling, but two years of losses followed. Having survived the economic recession and overcome its 'yuppy' image, the company is again making a profit and sales have doubled since 1990. The company's success lies in its new management team led by chief executive Robert Field. The new approach has led to Filofax drastically slashing the prices of its products, reducing the size of its product range and contracting out non-core operations. Filofax is again growing, both organically and through strategic acquisitions.

A waiting game with rich rewards

Article Abstract:

Development capital deals are a key part of the private equity business, although they receive less attention than buyouts and buy-ins. It is thought that the value of development capital deals rose further in 1994 from the 1993 level of 393 million pounds sterling. There is no firm data about the current level of demand for developmen capital, but there are encouraging signs.
