Bali seeks to maintain image as safe resort, court Chinese

Article Abstract:

Bali has seen a drop in tourism since the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, with 1,200 cancellations reported in the first two weeks after the attack. Bali's director of Tourism, I Gde Pitana is working hard to recapture the confidence of Westerners, as well as build a stronger tie with China by trimming the time it takes for the Chinese to obtain an Indonesian visa. Mr. Pitana expects the number of Chinese tourists to rise to 600,000 next year.

India's Bihar State sees Buddhism as the path to tourism's salvation

Article Abstract:

The Indian state of Bihar, known for its violent crime, political corruption and other problems, is also home to some of Buddhism's holiest sites, a point being trumpeted by Ashok Kumar Singh, Bihar's minister for tourism. The state is committed to changing its image, and the federal government and private concerns are providing financial assistance. Bihar's tourists statistics and efforts to improve tourist travel are discussed.

Australian states vie for tourists

Western Australia is investing A$6 million to finance its three-year tourism marketing campaign in television advertisement. The ad features a young Asian man enjoying the sultry looks of Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson while playing golf with his wife. Tourism New South Wales CEO Tony Thirlwell wants to entice travelers to the Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley.
