Barrels galore

Article Abstract:

The Tallaght Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, cost 68 million pounds sterling to build. Building work began in Oct 1993 and it became operational in Jun 1998. There is a multi-storey car park nearby. The interior of the hospital has different colours on floors, doors and plaster to show the various areas within the building. The hospital has 513 beds and it offers a full range of medical and surgical services. Architects Robinson Keefe and Devane won the design competition to find the best way of constructing the new hospital within the limitations of the site.

Simply rational: Tilbrook House, Petersfield, Hampshire

Article Abstract:

Architect Nev Churcher was responsible for the design of Tilbrook House, an area social services facility in Petersfield, England. Churcher focused on simplicity, both in detailing and in the choice of material. He conceived the building as an inhabited wall, with the garden elevation being dominated by the brickwork of the ground-floor offices. He chose multi-red stocks for facing bricks, with brick and a half being the basis for all the construction.
