Bertelsmann, Mondadori to form 2 book ventures

Article Abstract:

Bertellsmann AG and Mondadori SpA created a new venture firm called Mondo Libri, which will classify Bertellsmann and Mondadori's Italian book clubs, Club degli Editori and Euroclub SpA, respectively. Mondo Libri, which will start its operations at the onset of 1999, is expected to have around 200 billion lire of sales and two million subscribers. The establishment of the joint venture is part of Bertellsmann's effort to come up with a network of alliances in Asia and Europe to exploit the opportunities offered by the online book sales market.
