Wembley plays defensive over Brent cash threats

Article Abstract:

A war of words has started between Brent Council planning department and the builders of the new-look Wembley football stadium in London, with both sides adamant about the levels of compliance required to get the planning application approved in April 2000. The Wembley consortium believe they have fully complied with all the requirements layed out by Brent Council, including strict crowd dispersal times and infrastructure investments. Brent Council feel they are being pushed into approving the 450 million pounds sterling project against their will.

The original architect of the school is attempting to raise the 14 million pounds sterling required to refurbish the building. English Heritage had recommended the school for a Grade II listing, but this was overruled by Virginia Bottomley, former heritage secretary.
