Bomb happy

Article Abstract:

Violence appears to have become an increasing problem in Pakistan, where an attempt has been made to bomb the prime minister, Nawaz Sharif. The government is seen as weak in Pakistan as a whole, though it is stronger in Islamabad. Shia Muslims were shot dead while praying in a Punjabi mosque. The Karachi Citizen's Police Liason Committee favors a metropolitan police force in Pakistan, with freedom from political interference. There are problems with rising unemployment and claims that provinces other than Punjab have been neglected by the government.
