Article Abstract:

Central European Media Enterprises (CME) set up ventures for commercial TV channels with local companies in seven countries in Eastern Europe from 1994 to 1997. The channels quickly gained market share, but some problems have emerged. In Slovenia, a controlling interest in Kanal A was apparently sold to both CME and Scandinavian Broadcasting Systems, while in Poland there have been problems with the local partner. CME has also had problems in the Czech Republic where TV Nova is 99% owned by CME. TV Nova's director had established a company and transferred the TV program-buying rights of TV Nova to this company.
