Article Abstract:

There is concern about the United Kingdom economy despite a continued drop in unemployment. Manufacturing industry has been hit by the Asian crisis and by the high value of pound sterling. Business optimism is down according to the Confederation of British Industry. Pound sterling has dropped slightly in value but this is not enough to help industry, with order books below average. Manufacturing output has not been greatly reduced, but small reduction in the past have been followed by larger reductions.

Article Abstract:

Most college-educated young adults in Britain shun manufacturing jobs, choosing to go into professional jobs in areas such as law. Manufacturing suffers from old stereotypes, and the industry needs to change its image to attract young people.
