Breaking into heaven

Article Abstract:

European law firms carried out more than 4,000 deals across national borders between Jan and June 1999. However, they are worried about the impact that American firms will have on their market. There are 100 American firms in London, United Kingdom, and they have been approaching the staff in British firms. However, they are not large enough to provide a good range of work so the staff do not usually go. Any companies which do try and get involved in cross-border deals are taken very seriously by European law firms because they have links with US investment banks.

Paper tigers do it the Nordic way

Article Abstract:

Finnish concerns Rauma and Valmet undertook almost the whole of their merger themselves, although they obtained fairness opinions from Morgan Stanley and indigenous boutique Conventum. The two companies did not find it hard to persuade the competition authorities and their shareholders that the merger was worthwhile, but encountered some opposition from customers. They must now integrate the merger across all business activities.
