Article Abstract:

A Scottish Parliament has been set up by the United Kingdom New Labor government, and 56 seats of a total of 129 have been won by New Labor. The new parliament has little power to raise taxes, which means that Scottish politicians may blame problems on lack of funding from central government. This includes the debate on tuition fees, introduced by New Labor in the UK, which Liberal Democrats want to abolish in Scotland. Scotland could also seek grater independence, as could Wales.

The Labour Party plan to allow the Scottish Parliament more self-rule is a is a good idea. The central government will still control economic affairs, taxation, foreign affairs and social security. Wales should be given equal home rule and both should be expected to finance their decisions from local taxes.
