Article Abstract:

Philippine media giant ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp's successful initial public offering indicates growing investor confidence in the country following its presidential elections. Weeks prior to the official offering period, the issue was already oversubscribed andthis has been attributed to the favorable stockmarket perception of ABS-CBN's long-term management plans. ABS-CBN has increased its income from 13.6 million pesos in 1987 to 251.9 million pesos in 1991. Advertising income also rose from222.5 million to 1.1 billion pesos. Initial figures indicate better performancefor 1992.

Total project costs for a 60-storey office building in the Makati financial district of Manila, Philippines, could reach $500 million, according to businessman Ramon Jacinto. He linked with two US partners to win the $162 million deal for the scheme, which could serve to greatly boost the property market in the Philippines. Jacinto has a wide range of business interests, including Jacinto Steel Corp and a radio broadcasting network, but had not previously been involved in property.

Jose Marcel Panlilio has infused the Grand Hotels & Resort Group with his own aggressive style, and several of the group's 23 companies will be going public. He took over management of the group from his father in 1990 when he was just 26 years old. The group has expanded into the commercial airlines business, shipping, and property development, in addition to improving the family's resort properties.
