U.K. seeks to restrain public-sector pay gains

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced wage restraints that permit wages to increase at a rate that preserves the government's inflation target of 2%. Labor unions, however, have stated that consumer prices are increasing at a yearly rate of over 4%, and that pay raises need to be larger.
