British law firm's new Asia chief takes reins of a potential trend setter

Article Abstract:

Ruth Markland first came to Asia in 1981 for a brief assignment but ended up staying for five years while she helped establish Freshfields' Singapore and Hong Kong operations. Markland is again back in Asia as the new managing partner for the London-based law firm's Asian operations, which include offices in Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Markland believes that the Asian region is fraught with risks but she is also confident that the potential returns are well worth it.
