Business use of the Internet: strategic decision or another bandwagon?

Article Abstract:

It is possible to argue that some companies join the Internet without first addressing the issue of the role of the Internet in their strategy. Companies can only use the Internet successfully if they are prepared to devote resources to understanding its nature and scope. They must use the Internet strategically, incorporating it into their strategic information systems planning, and the Internet must play a clear role in business targets. This will be particularly important as the Internet becomes a key element of companies' information management strategies.

Which ABC? Accounting based on causality rather than activity-based costing

Article Abstract:

Traditionally, ABC stands for Activity-Based Costing, but it can add more value if it is used to analyse causality within organisations. Therefore, a new meaning for the acronym could be Accounting Based on Causality which recognises that customers are the basic cause of costs. The link between customers and the basket of attributes offered by the company is analysed and the impact of strategic decisions is discussed.

The electronic 'go-between service provider': a new 'middle' role taking centre stage

Article Abstract:

The increasing popularity of the Internet is challenging the traditional middle role in business. One of the new intermediaries likely to have a significant impact on the way industry works is the go-between service provider, which show innovative ways of operating and thinking. An assessment of the impact of such service providers on corporate management is presented.
