Value-focused thinking: identifying decision opportunities and creating alternatives

Article Abstract:

Value-focused thinking is an integral part of any organization. It aids in assessing solutions by first specifying aims that will serve as basis in choosing solutions and making necessary modifications. Most importantly, assessing methods of tackling a problem should be guided by values. This may prove to be complex at first but it is wise to implement this technique in making minor decisions so as to gain experience and make it easier to decide on future major moves. Moreover, experience will help in designing standard steps for making decisions.

Confrontation analysis as a diagnostic tool

Article Abstract:

Confrontation analysis proved to be an effective diagnostic tool for modelling scenarios related to interdependent decisions. Confrontation analysis, which is based on determination of positions undertaken by every participant and fallbacks threatened when each position is not accepted, is an easy-to-apply diagnostic tool for comprehending conflicts associated with interdependent decisions and for analyzing and forecasting tactics utilized. The method illustrates how each position undertaken by participants can undergo one or more dilemmas.

Article Abstract:

A zero-one goal programming (GP) model was proposed to enhance resource allocations for information infrastructure planning in a university. The GP model, which specifically aims to address the significant growth in information technology use and network planning, utilizes analytic hierarchy process method to designate proper weights to prioritized project goals. Application of the model results to generation of insights involving planning function in a university's information systems.
