CEO's death forces change at McDonald's: restaurant firm moves with speed to appoint successor to Cantalupo

McDonald's Corp. has quickly appointed Charlie Bell its chief executive officer, who will replace former CEO Jim Cantalupo, who died the previous day of a suspected heart attack. Bell was the company president and chief operating officer; Cantalupo, who helmed the firm for 16 months, is credited with a significant economic rejuvenation of the restaurant chain.

McDonald's names CEO as chairman

Article Abstract:

Jack M. Greenberg, the chief executive officer (CEO) of McDonald's Corp., was appointed as the company's chairman. The 56-year old Mr. Greenberg will be replacing Michael R. Quinlan who resigned from the post in 1998. Mr. Greenberg was appointed as CEO in order to reward him for turning McDonald's around recently. His appointment concludes a senior management shuffling that started in 1997.
