CGU says merger savings to be 'very significant.'

Article Abstract:

CGU PLC, the result of the merger of UK-based Commercial Union and General Accident, projects to see additional cost savings aside from the earlier estimate of 270 million pounds sterling. Previously, the company altered its annual cost saving estimate from 225 million pounds sterling to 270 million pounds sterling, but additional savings are expected to be realized from its stronger purchasing power. Besides reduced handling costs of claims, the company should also benefit from the two companies' individual specialties in handling claims as well as through reinsurance and taxation advantages.
