CTRI TRIES OUT LPG FOR CURING TOBACCO

Article Abstract:

The Central Tobacco Research Institute (CTRI) of Rajahmundry has tried using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the place of wood for curing tobacco. The CTRI unit in Hunsur is also using LPG for curing tobacco. The ILTD division of ITC Ltd is financing the gas curing project. The cost of wood accounts for 40 percent of the production cost. The colour and appearance of tobacco is good when LPG is used as the heat produced is uniform. (rk)

MUL MULLS ADDING VALUE TO ZEN VX TO BOOST SALES

Article Abstract:

Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) is planning to improve its Zen VX model by adding more value-added features. The new features include central locking system, power windows, air bags and child safety locks. There will be no change in the price and it will be offered at the old rate of Rs4.09 lakh. The idea behind the move is to boost the sales of Zen VX models, which is now lagging behind compared to Zen LX model. (gs)(psr)

CTRI DEVELOPING TOBACCOS WITH LOWER NICOTINE, TAR CONTENT

Article Abstract:

Central Tobacco Research Institute (CTRI) of Rajahmundry is making efforts in developing tobacco varieties with a low nicotine and tar content. CTRI has imported germplasm of 1,840 accessions collected from various varieties which are being examined every year. Out of about 464 accessions analysed by the institute, eight varieties have been found to be having low nicotine and tar content. (gs)
