CZECHIA: ERSTE BANK WANTS CS BANK

Article Abstract:

According to the Czech Finance Ministry, Erste Bank has submitted the best bid for the acquisition of the state's 52% stake in the Czech savings bank Ceska Sporitelna. An expert committee has recommended the ministry to negotiate with the Austrian bank. Merrill Lynch is acting as advisor in the privatisation of the bank, which is to be completed by the end of March 2000. Other bidders include the insurer Ceska pojistovna, Hypo-Vereinsbank of Germany, ING Group of the Netherlands and Societe Generale of France.

AUSTRIA: WAP BANKING WITH BANK AUSTRIA

Article Abstract:

Clients of Bank Austria and Mobilkom can use their WAP phones to check account statements by phone. Money transfers are not yet available due to security reasons. From 6 April 2000 Bank Austria clients can use the WAP service also through Max.mobil. The latter is already cooperating in WAP banking with Bawag and Raiffeisen banks.
