Cadbury mulls unit spinoff as net falls

Article Abstract:

First-half net profit for British confectioner Cadbury Schweppes PLC decreased by 78%, and the company may either sell or spin off its US beverages unit. The unit includes Snapple and Dr. Pepper and is valued at approximately 6.5 bil pounds sterling if spun off, and around 7 bil to 8 bil pounds sterling if sold in a private equity deal.

Cadbury to spin off beverage unit

British candy manufacturer Cadbury Schweppes PLC will sell its US soft drink division in the second quarter of 2008 as a separately traded firm. The soft drink business includes the 7 UP and Dr. Pepper brands. Industry analysts calculate the new company's value will be approximately 6 bil to 7 bil pounds sterling.
