Cafe de Coral holds appeal; Hong Kong fast-food firm serves up stability

Article Abstract:

Cafe de Coral Holdings continues to be a viable investment choice, despite the fall of its stock price to HK$2.65 from HK$2.675 on Jun 10, 1999. This may be because Cafe de Coral offers a solid stock that is anchored on steady profit growth. Securities analyst Alice Hui forecasts Cafe de Coral's earnings per share to gain 15% in FY 1999 to 38 cents after an impressive growth of as much as 20% in the year ended Mar 31. Its earnings growth in 1998 was also favorable, with profits showing promise of moderate growth if costs can be reined in and new businesses are exploited.

Hong Kong publisher tries retailing and ends up making enemies

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong newspaper publisher Jimmy Lai has launched a new retail venture with an Internet angle. Known as adMart, the new venture sells and delivers everything from digital cameras to diapers through phone, fax and online orders. The venture, however, has angered some of the big advertisers that provide income for his upstart newspaper, Apple Daily. They include the local Coca-Cola bottler which has complained about adMart's Coke imports from Malaysia and Park'N Shop which is the city's largest supermarket chain.
