The year 2004 saw Venture Communications in Calgary cross over from a conventional advertising agency to an integrated marketing communications company. As a result of the change, the companyEs revenue increased by twenty percent for the fiscal year ended in August, and it also attracted U.S. clients, including Cisco, Unisys and BMC Software. The agencyEs entrepreneur Arlene Dickinson, who received several awards for her business skills and marketing philosophy, shares her success story.

Transit strike derailing ad business

Article Abstract:

The advertising industry has lost nearly C$150,000 of the C$2.5 million generated annually by bus board and interior transit advertisements. This is because of the ongoing transit strike in Calgary, Canada, which started in late Feb 2001. Normally, Calgary's transit earns 317,000 weekday fares. Some of the major transit advertisers that are losing revenue owing to the strike include Pattison Outdoor Group, Highwood Communications and CFCN Television.
