Cambodians vote for democracy with their feet

Article Abstract:

The ongoing public unrest in Cambodia may be accounted for the dictatorial and oppressive reign of Pres Hun Sen. Hun Sen's term, which he obtained through a violent and corrupt election system, is not only characterized by mass uprisings, but political instability, as well. Instead of promoting a democratic form of government, Hun Sen subdued government critics, punished activists and resorted to various terror tactics. He even ordered the arrest of opposition leader Sam Rainsy and rendered a number of monks beaten.
