The importance of being independent: the remodelled Arcuck must maintain the separation between registration and professional matters

Article Abstract:

Arcuck is to be substantially changed during 1997 under the amended Registration Acts. The current 73 strong Council will have only 15 members, just seven of which will be architects, and the new Registration Board will expand to handle serious professional incompetence, whereas Arcuk dealt with discraceful conduct previously. It is important that the lay persons on the new council understand the core values and interests of architects and architecture, as they will have a major part to play in guiding the affairs of the industry.

Don't rely on what you did before

Article Abstract:

A recent judgement by the Official Referee has given valuable information regarding the professional liability of architects involved in phased construction. It was found that the engineers had a responsibility as part of a second-phase Building Regulation application and design development to ensure that the original foundation design work met appropriate standards. It is clear that reliance on previous work within a subsequent phase extents professional liability.
