Brick - as good today as it's always been

Article Abstract:

Brick is still used in modern day buildings as it is cheaper to use, there are plentiful supplies and it can be used in a variety of ways. It was the traditional material for school, banks, churches and block of flats. Michael Hopkins and partners used brick for the Glyndebourne opera house which went onto win design awards. Some innovative designs, such as the history library at Stirling university, Scotland, do not always work well and the cladding is replaced by brick.
