Can a hasty peace plan with Mindanao be successful?

Article Abstract:

The proposed peace agreement between the Philippine government and the Muslim rebels from the country's richest and second-largest island, Mindanao, may create more harm than good in the long-term. The peace plan involves the creation of a Southern Philippines Council for Peace and Development to be chaired by rebel leader Nur Misuari. The Christian population of the island, which is twice the size of the Muslim community, strongly opposes the plan.

Chinese missiles threaten Asia's peace

Article Abstract:

The prospect of nuclear arms buildup in China, which has been hinted at when the country launched some missiles near Taiwan, should spur the US out of its complacent stance. The Chinese move was just an exercise but it would cause investor nervousness and would adversely affect not only the economy of Taiwan but also its Asia-Pacific neighbors. Before it is too late, the US needs to assert itself to ensure regional stability.
