Canon boosts pretax profit 2.2% on strong sales in U.S., Europe

Article Abstract:

Canon Inc. announced a 2.2% improvement in its parent pretax profits for the 1998 year. The company benefitted from its strong sales in the US and Europe. The sales offset Canon's weakness in the Asian region. However, the company is predicting that it will see a major decline in its pretax profits in the 1999 year. Fluctuations in currency and growing competitiveness in the US and European markets are expected to hurt Canon's performance.
