Daimler records a profit, but it sets a cautious tone: despite gains in the U.S., CEO sees broad challenges on the map for 2004

DaimlerChrysler AG Chief Executive Officer Jurgen Schrempp warns that although the company closed its fourth quarter with a profit amid a gradual strengthening of the economy, he believes there will only be a slight increase in 2004 profits. The company's Asian affiliate has already announced it will suffer a greater loss this year than previously estimated, and higher costs may be associated with the launch of new models.

Veba looks for stronger results in 1999

Article Abstract:

Germany-based diversified utility company Veba AG said that it expects 1999 earnings to be better than 1998. Chairman Ulrich Hartmann did qualify that he expects 1999 to be a tough year because he expects the electricity division to post lower earnings.Veba said that it will ask shareholders' approval to buy back 10% of its shares.
