Car trouble?

Article Abstract:

The UK government seems to be developing a negative attitude towards company cars as it seeks to reduce traffic congestion. However, the company car industry and company car drivers have shown little concern about this trend. The anticipated economic slowdown will lead to a similar slowdown in the company car market, but this will only be a temporary problem. The vast majority of company car drivers regard their car as vital to their work, and would not consider using public transport instead, even if the costs associated with using a company car were to rise significantly.

Fuel's paradise?

Article Abstract:

There seems to be little interest in fuel-efficient vehicles in the UK. Sales of alternatively powered vehicles remain very low, despite government-supported initiatives such as Powershift, launched by the Energy Savings Trust in 1996. It seems unlikely that sales of alternatively powered vehicles will rise significantly until more liquefied petroleum gas and compressed natural gas fuel stations are established, making refuelling a gas powered car as easy as refuelling with petrol or diesel.

Korea moves: one of the biggest gambles ever seen in the UK motor industry is about to begin. The launch of Daewoo Cars is imminent and it could change the face of motor retailing in the UK - if it works

Article Abstract:

Daewoo is setting up a network of 30 wholly owned car 'supermarkets' in out of town shopping precints in the UK, rather than establishing a chain of dealers. The sales outlets will be staffed by Daewoo personnel with no hard sell. The company is also loaning several cars to selected 'guinea pigs' who would have the use of the car for a year. The Vision 2000 supermarket servicing will be undertaken by Halfords garage servicing arm.
