Proprietary partitioning systems can be installed quickly, they have thinner overall construction and there is a reduced use of wet trades. Partition types include monoblocs which are of sandwich panel construction, and bi-block. Trends in office partitioning inlcude timber frame with fully glazed panels. Suspended ceilings are widely used on the continent, but are only just becoming popular in the UK. They work by radiant transfer of heat to a cooled ceiling surface, and some high spec solutions integrate lighting, acoustics and natural ventilation.

However, there are now signs that manufacturers are beginning to develop interesting new products. There has been little progress in the area of standards, with many observers feeling that European Standards are frequently contradictory.
