RUSSIA: IS THIS THE TIME TO INVEST?

Article Abstract:

According to experts, now is the time to invest in Russia. There are several reasons give: the price of land and rentals is very attractive at present. The real estate market has dropped 30% in one month, and rentals have dropped 20% to 40%. The financial crisis from which Russia is suffering at present should benefit the strongest and most professional retail chains. According to the Healy & Baker firm, Russia's economy is expected to improve in January 1999, while the GFK firm predicts that eight to ten hypermarkets will be opened in Moscow by the end of 1999. While groups like Carrefour have chosen to postpone their projects due to the Russian crisis, others such as Ikea, the Swedish giant, are betting on the Russian market. Ikea has announced its intention of opening five shopping centres in Moscow.
