Changing the way people watch TV

Article Abstract:

DirecTV continues to be the leading DBS service in the United States, providing viewers digital quality, incomparable choice and excellent service. El Segundo, CA-based DirecTV currently provides some 175 digital channels of satellite-delivered television programming to more than 3.4 million subscribers across the nation. The satellite television service will launch its high definition television (HDTV) programing as soon as HDTV sets go on sale in the US. DirecTV expects to deliver more ethnic channels and other niche services in the future.

A picture is worth one thousand words

Article Abstract:

Cable and satellite broadcasting channel, Nickelodeon UK, carried out research to find out what children's lives are like. Children aged seven and eight and others aged 11 and 12 were approached via the telephone and were sent cameras, film, instructions on usage and a photo journal to fill in to accompany the photographs. The research concluded that children generally felt torn between having a safe, child's life and the challenge of gaining independence. They enjoy family life and having pets but are annoyed by their siblings.

Pie in the sky: Indian law delay frustrates satellite-TV programmers

Article Abstract:

India was a promising market for satellite television broadcasters just a year ago, but the landmark broadcasting bill has been delayed in parliament, and investment has virtually halted. The government wants to curb foreign investment in satellite broadcasting and the cap on foreign equity is a major cause for concern. New Delhi's overall policies for communications and information-technology are unclear, and analysts say that competition within the different service categories should be encouraged.
