Charles Conrad

Article Abstract:

Charles Conrad was an astronaut who took part in the second moon landing. His father had observed enemy lines as a balloonist during the 1914-1918 war. Conrad's space craft was hit by lightning after lift-off, and he decided to continue to the moon, where he spent eight hours. He saw space as a work place and did not seen going to the moon in religious terms. He forecast space travel for tourists. Conrad was noted for his sense of humor, which may be why he was not with the first astronauts to land on the moon.

High tea: Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Article Abstract:

Mackintosh's light, spare interiors were popular on the Continent but unappreciated in his native Glasgow at the turn of the century. The main exceptions were Catherine Cranston's tea rooms, one of which is re-created in the exhibit. At least two new books celebrate Mackintosh's work.
